A massive windstorm hit the Cincinnati Ohio area on Sunday, including the town of Loveland Ohio, site of the opening race of the 2008 Zipp OVCX Cyclocross Tour. News outlets reported that the storm, which was the remnant of Hurricane Ike, left nearly two million people without electricity and forecast that many would be without power for over a week. In Loveland itself, people in the only open store in town reported that they had seen several houses that had been destroyed by falling trees.
August 15, 2008 Registration has opened for the Zipp OVCX Tour's season opener on September 14. The Cyclosport Cyclo-Cross at Riverview Park in Loveland Ohio, near Cincinnati, will be the first cyclocross for any of the U.S.A.'s major cyclocross series in 2008. The course will be a fitting challenge to start the year according to promoter Ryan Lindsay, "This course has a bit of everything to throw at you, pavement, grass sections, lots of off camber, and a classic lung-bursting run-up." The event will be a celebration of the fifth year of cyclocross racing at Riverview Park...
The folks at ProCyclocross.com have generously offered to sponsor a unique contest for the OVCX community. After each race, the rider with the best race report will win a Euro Cross DVD! What better incentive could there be to break out the old pencils, dust off the dictionary, and sharpen those writing skills! All the submitted race reports will be posted on the OVCX website in a new section containing race reports, and the winner will be announced every week.
The Fine Print: DVDs will be available after EACH race, not just each weekend! Each rider can only win once.
On the day of the feast of the patron saint of cyclists, the Madonna del Ghisallo, Barry Wicks and Katie Compton powered their way to win handily, leaving the epic battles behind them for second. In both cases, a fire bolt start, exceptional handling, and unmatched strength saw the two to victory.
