OVCX #11 - Cap City Cross Ohio State Championship Upper Arlington, OH November 23, 2008 The Ohio State Championships were held in Columbus this past weekend on a course that featured equal parts power and equal parts skill. However, the presence of strong winds on race day made the power sections more significant, as three sections of lengthy straightaway went straight into a headwind. The park was extremely spectator-friendly, with most watchers perched up on the finish line hill looking down on the entire course. In what would be a convergence of three Midwestern series (Zipp OVCX, Cap City, and Lake Effect), a group of 40 elite men tore off the line in pursuit of Ohio State titles, Zipp OVCX points and

The Zipp OVCX Tour is now down to its final three races heading into Columbus, OH this week for the Ohio State Championships. For a quick recap of last week's action and the series outlook in each category we turn once again to the Masked Prognosticator. Elite Men Ryan Knapp of BikeReg.com turned in yet another dominating performance in Lexington this week. After trailing Mike Sherer of Pony Shop for a couple laps, Knapp took the lead and then laid the hammer down, dispatching of Sherer and anyone else that thought they had a shot -- primarily the Barbasol boys. Speaking of which, Mike Purvis and Mitchell Kersting pretty much rode circles together for an hour...

The OVCX Series is headed down the stretch run into the final four races as we move to Lexington, KY this week. Now is the time when racers look to get their 7 races in for the series totals (5 in the Mens 3/4 Masters 35+ / 45+ due to the USGP) and improve upon any inferior performances from earlier in the year. Let's have our OVCX prognosticator take a quick look at each category. Elite Men Ryan Knapp of BikeReg.com strengthened his hold on the top spot this week in Dayton, holding off Isaac Neff, Mike Purvis and Mitchell Kersting for the win. Knapp now holds

A massive windstorm hit the Cincinnati Ohio area on Sunday, including the town of Loveland Ohio, site of the opening race of the 2008 Zipp OVCX Cyclocross Tour. News outlets reported that the storm, which was the remnant of Hurricane Ike, left nearly two million people without electricity and forecast that many would be without power for over a week. In Loveland itself, people in the only open store in town reported that they had seen several houses that had been destroyed by falling trees.

Registration has opened for the Zipp OVCX Tour's season opener on September 14. The Cyclosport Cyclo-Cross at Riverview Park in Loveland Ohio, near Cincinnati, will be the first cyclocross for any of the U.S.A.'s major cyclocross series in 2008. The course will be a fitting challenge to start the year according to promoter Ryan Lindsay, "This course has a bit of everything to throw at you, pavement, grass sections, lots of off camber, and a classic lung-bursting run-up."
The event will be a celebration of the fifth year of cyclocross racing at Riverview Park...

What better incentive could there be to break out the old pencils, dust off the dictionary, and sharpen those writing skills! All the submitted race reports will be posted on the OVCX website in a new section containing race reports, and the winner will be announced every week.
The Fine Print: DVDs will be available after EACH race, not just each weekend! Each rider can only win once.
